Women's soccer earns 3-0 shutout over Eagles

The Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team shutout Edgewood College 3-0.

River Forest, Ill. - A beautiful, sunny day started off with a match between the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team and the Edgewood Eagles. The Cougars would take the game handedly 3-0 to earn their first win of the season. Both sides of the field contributed to this win as a full effort was put forward by Concordia-Chicago.
 
The Cougars came in hot to start the game with a solo goal. This sparked the momentum for the team, fueling their offensive and defensive efforts. Shortly after the first goal was scored, another goal came for the Cougars to push the score to 2-0.
 
The second half consisted of one more goal for Concordia-Chicago to finish off their win of 3-0. With 10 shots and four of those on goal, this was a great game for the Cougars. In addition to offense, the defense pushed forward to secure the first win of the season. The defense was on point for Concordia as the Eagles only had two shots on goal the entire game.
 
Player Highlights of the Match:
  • Britani Chansler (Naples, Fla.) scored an unassisted goal to secure her first one of the season for the Cougars.
  • Kitana Watson (Oak Park, Ill.) earned the second goal of the first half off an assist from Meagan Wilkinson (Georgetown, Ky.). This was a perfect example of teamwork that CUC showcased throughout the game.
  • Itzel Calderon (Oak Lawn, Ill.) had an amazing shot to end the game with a header into the goal. This was assisted by a corner kick from Melica Kenworthy (New Lenox, Ill.).
  • The defenders need to feel the love, too! Wilkinson and Karissa Walters (Zeeland, Mich.) kept the Eagles away and had a show-stopping game.
 
The Cougars will be traveling to Aurora on Wednesday, Sept. 22. This match against the Spartans will begin at 7 p.m.
