Wheaton, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team competed in the first day of the Bob Baptista Invitational. During the first day of competition, the Cougars faced Grinnell College. After a hard-fought 90 minutes, CUC was unable to come out with a win, losing the contest 3-1.
 
Concordia came out strong in the first 15 minutes of the game as the Cougars found the back of the net. That was short-lived as the Pioneers scored two goals in the remaining 30 minutes of that half. From there, the Cougars were unable to make a comeback. Grinnell was able to score one more goal with two minutes left in the game to round out the night with a score of 3-1 in favor of the Pioneers.
 
There were many of positives in this game for CUC. The Cougars outshot the Pioneers 20-19 while also having double the corner kicks with six.
 
Player Highlights of the Game:
	- Oscar Montejano (Zion, Ill.) scored the team's only goal of the game in the 12th minute. He scored off a pass from Samuel Epperly (Elgin, Ill.).
- Along with his goal, Oscar continued to put offensive pressure on the Pioneers, putting up six shots with four of those on goal.
- Contributing to the offensive pressure was Michael Frank (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Garrett Poynter (Noblesville, Ind.), who both added three shots each to CUC's 20. 
The Cougars will have no time off before they head back to Wheaton, Ill., to take on the Wheaton University Thunder on Saturday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
