Andy Lambert hired as new head football coach

Concordia University Chicago hired Andy Lambert as its new head football coach.

River Forest, Ill. -- Concordia University Chicago Athletics is pleased to announce the hire of Andy Lambert as the head football coach, director of athletics Pete Gnan announced today.

"We are excited to announce the hiring of Andy Lambert as the head coach of our football program," Gnan said. "Andy brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the position. He is a Christian man, who will lead with discipline and love. God has truly blessed us in finding Coach Lambert."

Lambert comes to CUC from Eastern Michigan University. In his role as the analyst for defense, he assisted the defensive coordinator and position coaches when it came to collecting and analyzing data about opponents' offenses. He also helped with quality control in practice and gathered opponent offensive information on game day.

Current Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton MA '93, who was also a former assistant for Concordia, said, "Coach Lambert leads with integrity, and is a man of Christ. He will be a great fit as the leader of the football program."

Prior to his time at Eastern Michigan, Lambert was the head coach at Division II South Nazarene University in Bethany, Okla., where he was at the helm for four seasons. While in Bethany, he improved the team's record tremendously. He also coached various All-Academic team honorees.

He also made a name for himself at Sterling College in Kansas. During his 12 years with the program, he took them from a 0-20 record to conference champions. He earned Coach of the Year for his conference three times as well. Along with his responsibilities as head football coach, Lambert served as the director of athletics for the college as well.

His first stop as a head coach was at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Ill. in the NAIA. He spent seven years with the team, taking the program from last place to co-champions for the conference. He also earned Coach of the Year honors twice.

"I'm extremely excited to be the new head coach at Concordia," Lambert said. "This is such a fantastic opportunity and I am thankful to be in this position."

He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Trinity International University and his master's in physical education from Chicago State University.

Lambert follows Jason Aubry in this role. Aubry resigned from his position after three years with the Cougars. Lambert will begin his tenure with the team on Tuesday, May 4.
