In a hard fought battle, resulting in an overtime finish, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team (2-6) fell to Benedictine University (1-4).
Both teams struggled to gain momentum throughout the game, finding a fast paced game of back and forth. The game continued to be physical, giving both teams a number of free kicks.
As the game progressed into overtime, the Cougars found themselves making many runs to try to end the game quickly. Shots from Brianna Welch (Oswego, Ill.), Cecilia Kochanek (Streamwood, Ill.), and Janette Moreno (Cicero, Ill) put them ahead in their offensive possession, giving the Cougars momentum throughout the two overtime periods.
In a heartbreaking overtime finish, an indirect free kick inside the penalty box found the back of the net as the final buzzer went off, giving the Eagles the 1-0 win.
CUC will head North as they take on Ripon College this Sunday at 1 p.m.
