The stationary was flying at Concordia Stadium on Wednesday, April 7, where six cards were handed out, including two straight reds, as the Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (0-5-1) fell 2-0 against the Benedictine University Eagles (2-2-1).
Â
Each team had good chances early, punctuated by an effort from Eagles forward Manav Soorma that rattled the crossbar above Cougars goalie
Nicholas Pasut (New Boston, Mich.), who made nine saves in the game. Pasut now has 45 saves on the season and improved his save percentage for the year to 76.3.
Â
A quiet 25 minutes followed the early opportunities before two quick goals gave Benedictine a lead they never relinquished. Lukasz Sulka converted a penalty despite Pasut getting a hand to it, and Michal Szaflarski tapped the second home after a great point-blank save by Pasut.
Â
The game contained a half-hour delay in the 70th minute for lightning in the area, which caused the total runtime to approach three hours by the time the final whistle blew.
Creating offensive pressue for CUC today was freshman
Julian Granzetto (Evanston, Ill.). The forward put up three shots, with two of those being on goal. Sophomore
Austin Montejano (Zion, Ill.) also helped the team out with one shot on goal. Pasut continued to make big plays in the net for Concordia as he made nine saves.Â
Â
The Cougars next travel to nearby Lake Forest College for their final away match of the regular season on Monday, April 12. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
