The Concordia University Chicago softball team (3-16-1) hit the road as they took on the Rockford University Regents (14-6). After playing in a doubleheader, the Cougars came home with two losses.
Â
In the first game, CUC started off strong. They scored the first run of the game as
Annabella Archuletta (Pueblo, Colo.) brought
Becky Pieroni (Montgomery, Ill.) home in the first. From there, it only took an inning for Rockford to make a comeback. The Regents scored three runs in the second, which ultimately gave them the lead. The Cougars lost to the Regents in the first game 9-5.
Â
Pieroni was the leading force on offense for Concordia. She recorded three runs, with two of those scored on her own home runs. She also notched four RBIs throughout the game. Senior
Sydney Sterrett (Lafayette, Ind.) helped the offense for CUC as well, making it home on the two home runs from Pieroni.
Â
The second game told a similar story for the Cougars. Sterrett scored a run off a hit from sophomore
Hailey Howard (Machesney Park, Ill.) to give CUC the 1-0 lead in the third. However, Rockford came back in the fifth inning, grabbing five runs. This resulted in a 5-1 loss for Concordia in the second game of the doubleheader.
Â
Sterrett was the only Cougar to reach home during this game. With her hit, Howard registered the team's only RBI of the game. Junior
Sydney Paulauskis-Lauher (Chatham, Ill.) also finished with a team-high two hits. On the mound,
Holly Bathje (Davis Junction, Ill.) struck out three Regent batters.
Â
The Cougars will have four days off before they are back on the field again in Madison, Wisconsin as they take on the Edgewood College Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
