The Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team (8-0) earned another dominant win today as they took on the Edgewood College Eagles (0-6).
Â
It was a close game for the first five minutes. The Cougars started off with the first two goals, but the Eagles responded back with their own, tying the game up. That was the only opportunity CUC gave Edgewood. From there, Concordia scored six goals before the Eagles could score another. This game ultimately ended in a 21-3 win for CUC.
Â
Concordia was close to breaking a school record in their last game at Benedictine, but today, the team pushed beyond the previous record. With their 21 goals, this women's lacrosse team now holds the school record for the most goals scored in a game.
Â
Leading the offensive effort for the Cougars was sophomore
Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif), who finished the day with six goals. Following up close behind her in scoring was sophomore
Bailey Steinkamp (Cary, Ill.) as she added an additional four goals. Emily and
Elizabeth Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) and
Nina Naes (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) each recorded three goals of their own while
Grace Miller (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and
Brynn Beetow (Buffalo, N.Y.) each contributed one. Elizabeth also set up three goals as she registered those assists.
Â
On defense, it was Beetow and Orenstein who shined on the field. Beetow caused four turnovers during the game while Orenstein grabbed seven ground balls. Sophomore goalie
Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.) helped the team from the net, making three saves.
Â
The Cougars will have one week off before they are back on the field. They will come home to Concordia Stadium as they take on Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday, April 10. The first draw control will take place at 11 a.m.
