Orenstein sets two school records in win over Falcons

The Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team defeated Concordia-Wisconsin.

The Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team (9-0) hit the field in River Forest again this morning, April 10, as they took on Concordia University Wisconsin (2-3). After a stellar performance in their last game on the field, the Cougars decided to do it again, defeating their conference rival 21-2.

From the start of the game, CUC maintained complete control of the game. Junior Emily Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) recorded the first goal for the Cougars, which helped give them a 13-1 lead heading into the half. Once they came back on the field, Concordia scored another eight goals, ultimately resulting in the 21-2 win.

Sophomore Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif.) stood out for the Cougars. The attacker set a new CUC record for the most goals scored in a game, finishing with nine. She also tallied two assists to give her 11 points on the game, which is another school record for Orenstein in her young career.

Also contributing to the team's offensive efforts were Emily and Elizabeth Crywus (Chicago, Ill.) Elizabeth grabbed five goals during the contest while Emily earned four. Along with those three, sophomore Nina Naes (St. Louis, Mo.) and freshman Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) each scored goals of their own, registering two and one, respectively.

On defense, sophomore goalie Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.) made a huge impact for the Cougars. She made key saves to only allow the Falcons to earn two goals. Throughout the game, she made seven saves. Sophomore Madison Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) also contributed to the defensive efforts, causing three turnovers.

With today's win, CUC tied the school record they set in their last game against Edgewood with the 21 goals scored. This is also the lowest amount of goals they allowed another team to score this season.

The Cougars will have two days off before they travel to the Illinois Institute of Technology as they take on the Scarlet Hawks. The game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
