Gledhill Collects Three Hits In Loss To North Central

Concordia University Chicago baseball (7-12) fell at home on Wednesday to the No. 14 North Central Cardinals (16-5) by a final score of 14-4 at the Thunderdome.

The Cardinals jumped on top early with a five spot in the second inning. The Cougars got one back in the bottom half on an RBI single from junior Howie Hatton (North Riverside, Ill.) that scored fellow junior Matthew Uba (Darien, Ill.). With runners on the corners, the scoring threat remained in place. However, the team was unable to chip away any further at the North Central lead.

Things continued to go the Cardinals' way on offense, as they scored five unanswered runs over the next four innings to take a 10-run lead. The Cougars' scoring drought was broken in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a sac-fly from sophomore Colton Wallace (Hampshire, Ill.).

The team scored a couple more runs in the seventh on RBI singles from Hatton and sophomore Gary Maynard (Oswego, Ill.). It was the best inning offensively for the Cougars, who tallied four hits.

With two hits on Wednesday, Hatton now has multiple hits in each of his last five games. The junior is currently riding an eight game hitting streak overall. Sophomore Carter Gledhill (Arlington Heights, Ill.) had a career-high three hits on the afternoon and scored one of the Cougars' four runs. The lone extra-base hit in the game for CUC was a double from Maynard, who joined Hatton and Gledhill as players with multiple hits.

The Cougars have two days off before a four-game weekend series with the Stars of Dominican University. The first two games will be played at Dominican on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for noon. Coverage for Saturday's action can be found on the Dominican Athletics website.
