The Concordia University Chicago men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Benedictine Invite yesterday in Lisle, Illinois. After a full day of competition, the women finished in seventh of 11 teams and the men finished in 12th out of 13.

The women had a series of strong performances. Leading the way for the Cougars was senior
Simone Wilson (Minneapolis, Minn.). The hurdler finished in first of 11 runners in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.82. This is currently the fastest time in Division III. Along with Wilson, fellow senior
Kayla Armstrong (Chicago, Ill.) also contributed in the sprints. She grabbed a second-place finish out 22 in the 400 with a 57.76-second sprint and registered a time of 24.82 seconds in the 200 to finish in fifth of 39 runners. Both of these times put Armstrong in the top five in Division III for these events.

In field events, senior
Cassandra Garza (Grafton, Wis.) finished in fifth out of 22 throwers in both the shot put and hammer. She threw a distance of 11.55 meters in the shot while registering a throw of 43.56 meters in the hammer. Senior
Dejah Sartin (Downers Grove, Ill.) also had a top performance in the long jump as she grabbed 13th with a jump of 4.54 meters. Sophomore
Lora Haupt (Northville, Mich.) contributed to the team's success in the pole vault with a 10th-place finish with a jump of 2.95 meters.

On the men's side, junior
Gustavo Alvarez (Chicago, Ill.) shined yet again for the Cougars. He finished in first place out of 10 vaulters as he cleared 4.55 meters. Sophomore
Shane Allen (Northlake, Ill.) also had a big performance in the hammer as he recorded a 38.09-meter throw to secure eighth place out of 13 throwers.

The Cougars will have one week off before they head to Wisconsin Lutheran College to compete in the Warrior Invite. The meet will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17.
