The Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team (2-0) took to the field again as they faced the Cornell College Rams (2-1). After two halves of play, the Cougars came out on top, winning the contest 8-4.
Â
The Rams scored the first goal of the game about two minutes into the first half. Once that goal was scored, it didn't take long for the Cougars to make their move. They answered with two goals of their own from sophomore
Grace Miller (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and senior
Elizabeth Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.).
Â
Cornell decided to tie it up with 18 minutes left in the first. But with just four minutes left, sophomore
Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif.) scored a goal of her own to give the Cougars a one-point lead at the half. That was all CUC needed. The Cougars took the momentum they gained in the first and brought it into the second, scoring five more goals to win the game 8-4 against the Rams.
Â
Orenstein, Elizabeth and sophomore
Madison Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) each grabbed two goals in this game, with Miller and
Emily Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) each recording one. Perkins also registered an assist along with sophomore
Brynn Beetow (Buffalo, N.Y.), who notched one, and sophomore
Nina Naes (St. Louis, Mo.), who snagged two.
Â
On defense, sophomore
Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.) earned nine saves on the day, only allowing those four goals. Orenstein also helped the team by grabbing eight ground balls and two draw controls. Emily also registered seven draw controls of her own.
Â
The Cougars will have two days off before they are on the road again to take on Anderson University. The first faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST. A live stream will be available at the
Anderson Athletics website.
