Win streak extended to 15 after win over Eagles

The Concordia University women's lacrosse team defeated Benedictine University.

The Concordia University Chicago women's lacrosse team (7-0) played their first game in a week and a half tonight, March 31, as they took on the Benedictine University Eagles (1-4). After two halves of play, CUC came out with the 20-4 win, extending their win streak to 15.

The Cougars had control of the game within the first two minutes. Senior Elizabeth Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) scored the first two goals, which gave CUC momentum. Although the Eagles fought back with two of their own in the first 15 minutes, it wasn't enough to stop the Cougars. Concordia ran away with the game. Heading into the second half, CUC was up 9-3 and ultimately scored 11 more goals in the second to finish with a 20-4 win.

With the 20 goals scored, the team also tied the school record for the most goals scored in a game. The last time CUC earned this many goals was against Elmhurst last season.

Elizabeth added five more goals to the box score after the first two minutes, giving her seven on the night and tying the school record for most goals scored in a game. Junior Emily Cyrwus (Chicago, Ill.) also made a huge impact on offense as she finished with four goals. Between the two sisters, they recorded over half of the team's goals in this game.

The Cyrwus' weren't the only ones to contribute to the team's offense. Sophomores Bailey Steinkamp (Cary, Ill.) and Madison Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) along with freshman Jessica Parker (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) all scored two goals while sophomores Grace Miller (Hoffman Estates, Ill.), Rylee Orenstein (Walnut Creek, Calif.) and Brynn Beetow (Buffalo, N.Y.) each scored one. Miller also added three assists to the stat sheet.

Not only did Elizabeth lead on offense, but she was a big contributor on defense as well. She led the team in caused turnovers with five while senior Sarah Ludwig (Roselle, Ill.) followed up with four. Sophomore Ryan McGee (Chicago, Ill.) helped CUC in goal with two saves.

The Cougars will have two days off before they are back on the road this Saturday, April 3, as they take on Edgewood College. The first face off will take place at 12 p.m.
