Honoring five seniors for Senior Day, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team (1-3) took on the MSOE Raiders (2-0) for a sunny and 65° matchup that resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Cougars.
Five seniors started the match today including Esmeralda Torres (Eureka, Calif), Samantha Goodlett (Hamilton, Ohio), Janette Moreno (Cicero, Ill.), Cecilia Kochanek (Streamwood, Ill.), and Brianna Welch (Oswego, Ill.). Already this season, the seniors have proven to be dominant on the field as Kochanek holds the only two goals of the season thus far, while Torres has grabbed an assist. Stepping onto the field for the first time this season, Goodlett showcased her experience as she found herself with two shots on goal while helping to control the overall tempo of the game.
The game started with an early goal from MSOE putting the ball in the back of the net just three minutes into the game. Following this early goal, the Cougars stepped up their defense and shut out the Raiders for the remainder of the half, while sophomore keeper
Kassie Silenzi (Carpentersville, Ill.) grabbed two saves in the first.
As the intensity and drive to fulfill a senior day win continued to grow during the second half, the Raiders were ultimately able to find the back of the net two more times, leaving the stadium with a 3-0 win.
CUC will hit the road on Wednesday to head west for a matchup at University of Dubuque set for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
