Box Score Concordia University Chicago football (0-1) kicked off their unique spring season at home on Saturday with a 28-0 loss to the Eagles of Benedictine University (1-0).
The Cougars' defense was impressive throughout much of the game, especially in the second half. Leading the way was junior Tyler Dudley (Katy, Texas), who had nine total tackles, six of which were solo. Sophomore Justin Aduo (Grand Prairie, Texas) was a problem up front, recording two sacks and an additional tackle for loss.
Benedictine scored on their first drive of the game, but the defense calmed down and kept the Eagle offense in line for the majority of the remaining game. Their fourth touchdown came in the final minutes, with the Cougar defense allowing just 14 points in between the Eagles' first and last drives.
Junior quarterback Jordan Sepulvida (Lake Worth Fla.) was 23-41 in his first game back at CUC. His favorite target was fellow junior Semaj James (Lakeland, Fla.), who had eight catches for 75 yards. James also had six carries for 20 yards.
The best scoring chance for the Cougars came at the end of the first half, when they had first and goal from the one-yard line. Working against the clock, the team was unable to get the final push across the goal line.
The Cougars will be back in action next Saturday, March 27, when they travel to Aurora to take on the Spartans. Kick-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. and a stream to the game will be available on the
