In an exciting first win of the season, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team (1-2) walked away from Cougar Stadium with a 1-0 victory over Benedictine University (0-3).
Tonight's contest started slow, as both teams found themselves only able to get one shot off each in the first half. Emotions were high as both teams were hungry to secure their first win of the season, resulting in a physical battle between the two. Seniors Cecilia Kochanek (Streamwood, Ill.) and Janette Moreno (Cicero, Ill.) facilitated the midfield well as they looked to create more opportunities for the team to get shots off.
As intensity continued to increase, both teams pushed the ball up the field quicker and harder to be the first to find the back of the net. On a long shot from outside the box, Kochanek was able to roll one across the line giving the Cougars the 1-0 advantage with 20 minutes left in the game. The Eagles responded quickly by taking dominance in their offensive end, adding four shots in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kassie Silenzi (Carpentersville, Ill.) made some big saves, dives, and clears to keep Benedictine's scorecard clear.
The Cougars look to go 2-0 on the week when they play MSOE at home on Sunday at 12 p.m.
