New team match record set in men's volleyball win over Warriors

The Concordia University Chicago men's volleyball team swept Wisconsin Lutheran.

The Concordia University Chicago men's volleyball team (3-5) was back in Geiseman Gymnasium after playing in multiple away games. They faced the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors (0-7) in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. After three sets of play, the Cougars recorded a sweep as they defeated the Warriors.

All three sets told a similar story for CUC tonight. They grabbed an early lead against the Warriors and kept that lead throughout the game. Nine Cougars recorded aces during this match as they all went on service runs at various points throughout the three sets. The team totaled 15 aces, which is a new team match record for the young program.

Many players saw time on the court tonight, including freshman Clayton Nix (Lindenhurst, Ill.). The outside hitter led the offense tonight with seven kills, hitting .417 (2 errors, 12 attempts). Sophomore Luke Vozenilek (Westmont, Ill.) also helped the team in just the one set he played with five kills.

As mentioned above, nine Cougars registered aces in this match, but the two that led the team in this stat were senior Trent Weber (Carol Stream, Ill.) and junior Virgilio Rodriguez (Cicero, Ill.), who both notched three on the night. Freshman Blake Rosen (Aldie, Va.) contributed the most to the back row defense with 10 digs while junior Ricardo Ruiz (Lynwood, Ill.) helped the most in the front row with four blocks.

The Cougars will have two nights off before they hit the road again to take on Lakeland University. First serve for that match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
