The Concordia University Chicago women's volleyball (2-2) played their first competition in a week as they traveled to Aurora University to take on the Spartans (2-0). After playing in two matches, the Cougars are returning to River Forest without any wins.
Â
Both matches told similar stories for the Cougars. Although they started off strong in each set, CUC could not keep up with the fast-paced offense and tough serves the Spartans dished out. The first match resulted in a 3-0 loss with scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-15, and the second concluded with a 3-0 loss with scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-20.
Â
In the first match, sophomore
Alyssa Henline (Fort Wayne, Ind.) led the team's offense. She recorded a team-high nine kills along with eight digs. Junior
Julia Beers (Mishawaka, Ind.) and senior
Alexa Lomantini (St. Louis, Mo.) each contributed to the team's back row defense as they each notched nine digs. Also helping the team's defense in the front row was junior
Caroline Gibbons (Roselle, Ill.) with two blocks.
Â
The second game resulted in Henline leading the offense again, this time with 12 kills. She registered an additional 15 digs to give herself a double-double on the match. Freshman
Katie Stonich (Sadieville, Ky.) made an impact in the front row as well with nine kills. On defense, freshman
Sophie Kovachevich (Huntley, Ill.) recorded 10 digs. Also grabbing some team-high stats for the Cougars was Beers, who served up two aces, and freshman
Isabelle Vernengo (Plainfield, Ill.), who had 28 assists.

The Cougars will have a week off before they are back in Geiseman Gymnasium, again taking on the Benedictine University Eagles. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
