Kochanek scores in loss to Stars

The Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team lost 5-1 to Dominican.

In their first matchup of the season, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team (0-1) fell short to their Division Street rival in Dominican University (1-0) with a final score of 5-1.

Dominican scored early, putting the ball in the back of the net in the 16th minute with a second goal following closely behind in the 21st. The Cougars responded with their first goal of the season from senior Cecilia Kochanek (Streamwood, Ill.) that left them trailing 2-1 at half.

After letting up another goal early in the second half, the Cougars tightened up their defense and held the score for another 28 minutes.  However, following a stretch of numerous corner kicks for Dominican, they grabbed two more goals late in the game, running away with the 5-1 victory.

The Stars outshot CUC 27-3, while sophomore keeper Kassie Silenzi (Carpentersville, Ill.) grabbed a total of 13 saves on the day.  Following the loss, the Cougars will enter conference play with a 0-1 record.

The Cougars will be back in action on Sunday taking on their first conference game of the season at Aurora University at 12 p.m.
