First contest for men's soccer leads to loss against Stars

The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team lost 5-0 to Dominican University.

The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team (0-1) kicked off their 2021 season on Wednesday afternoon as they renewed the Division Street Rivalry with the Dominican University Stars (1-0). Despite the 5-0 score in Dominican's favor, the bright and sunny spring afternoon in River Forest was certainly not without excitement; the Cougars returned to competitive play for the first time in 494 days.

Every Cougars shot was on-target but they were unable to find a breakthrough. While at the other end, sophomore goalkeeper Nicholas Pasut (New Boston, Mich.) made 12 saves in the CUC net.

Sophomore midfielder Alberto Arellano (Chicago, Ill.) registered two shots on goal, while Ryan Kulhman (Darien, Ill.), Austin Montejano (Zion, Ill.), Julian Granzetto (Evanston, Ill.), Alexis Calderon (Markham, Ill.), and Grayden McClellan (Itasca, Ill.) all also hit the target.

Arellano and Montejano were two of three Cougars to play all 90 minutes, joined by senior captain Bryce Bilodeau (Dallas, Texas).

The Cougars next travel to Benedictine on Wednesday, March 17, with a game against Rockford to follow before their home opener against Dominican on March 28.
