Fond du Lac, Wis. --- After picking up three points earlier in the week, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team made the trek up to Marian University, looking for their second straight win on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars (2-9-2, 2-4-2 NACC) got two goals from Itzel Calderon, but a late goal for Marian (4-7-1, 4-4-0 NACC) proved to be enough to down the Cougars 3-2.
The Cougars got the scoring for the day started in the 10th minute. Allie Brown fed a pass forward to Calderon. Calderon then chipped the ball just inside the left post with her right foot for her second goal of the season, which gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
Marian answered the early CUC goal in the 24th minute. Allison Fought took a pass from Ashley Welk and guided it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Calderon struck again in the 53rd minute. Marian failed to clear a CUC corner. The ball bounced around dangerously inside the box, and Calderon got her right foot on the ball and struck a low liner into the net on the right side to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
The CUC lead held until the 84th minute. Shannon Coughlin netted her fourth goal of the season to tie the match at two. Marian took the lead for good in the 88th minute when a pass deflected off of a CUC defender and into the back of the net for what proved to be the game winning goal.
With the two goals Calderon now leads the team with three goals on the season. For Brown the assist was her second of the season. Kassie Silenzi recorded a season high 12 saves in net for CUC.
