Milwaukee, Wis. - On a rainy October 13th, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team (3-8-2, 3-4-2) found themselves on the field in Milwaukee as they took down Alverno University (2-5-0, 0-9-0) 3-0.
The Cougars made their mark early as freshman Melica Kenworthy (New Lenox, Ill.) grabbed her second goal of the season in the 12th minute with a smooth assist from sophomore Julianna Paulsen (Villa Park, Ill.) from the right side. As the clock ticked down in the first half the Cougars's shots continued to go up, with 14 total in the first 45 minutes.
Coming out in the second half with fresh legs the Cougar offense took charge with more energy and intensity. Senior Karissa Walters (Zeeland, Mich.) found the back of the net in the 56th minute to grab her first career goal. Shortly after, freshman Valeria Fernandez (Burbank, Ill.) gets herself just inside the box on the left side before getting tripped up, giving the Cougars a penalty kick. Sophomore Itzel Calderon (Oak Lawn, Ill.) stepped up to the line, sending the shot straight down the middle for her fourth goal of the season and the final goal of the game.
