Cougars Defeat WLC on Senior Day

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Looking to pick up three points, the Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team welcomed the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors to Concordia Stadium for a Sunday matinee contest. The Cougars were able to pick up the 2-1 win over the Warriors, which included the game winning goal from Itzel Calderon in the 59th minute. Prior to the match the Cougars honored their lone senior Karissa Walters prior to the contest.

The Cougars dominated possession early, and finally broke through for the game's first score in the 14th minute. A throw in ended up at the right foot of Medelin Loza, who lobbed a ball towards the net. The ball was just out of the reach of the WLC keeper and found the back of the net for Loza's third goal of the season.

The Cougars continued to dominate possession until late in the first half when WLC was able to tie it. Elena Velasquez curled a corner kick just inside the left post for her third goal of the season.

CUC was able to take the lead for good in the 59th minute. Melica Kenworthy placed a corner perfectly, where Itzel Calderon was able to header home her fifth goal of the season, which gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
In total, the Cougars out-shot Wisconsin Lutheran 27-13. Kassie Silenzi made six saves on the day.
