Chicago, Ill. - The Concordia University Chicago women's soccer team (4-9-2, 4-5-2) headed to the South side of Chicago where they took on Illinois Institute of Technology (11-4-1, 8-3), ultimately falling 6-1.
The Cougars started out strong as they were able to split possession with IIT early in the first half, before falling behind 1-0 in the 11th minute. Goalkeeper Kassie Silenzi (Carpentersville, Ill.) was able to make five saves in the first half, keeping the Cougars motivated.. With a perfectly placed corner kick from Melica Kenworthy (New Lenox, Ill.) sophomore Itzel Calderon (Oak Lawn, Ill.) found the back of the net to even things up for the Cougars. Not long after, IIT was able to sneak two more goals past the Cougar defense, giving them the 3-1 lead going into halftime.
Despite a physical defense, the Scarlet Hawks were able to break through and find themselves a few more goals as the game progressed. Unable to score again, the Cougars ultimately fell 6-1 while being outshot 20-5 on the night.
