Strong Offensive Effort Leads CUC Past Marian

Fond du Lac, Wis. --- Building off of the overtime victory on Tuesday night, the Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team defeated the Marian University Sabres by a final score of 4-0. Four different players scored goals and seven players registered points for CUC (5-4-2; 3-2-2 NACC) in the win over Marian (4-9-0; 1-7-0). With the win, the Cougars extend their winning streak to three matches over Marian.

Marian got a few good looks on net in the opening minutes of the contest, but starting keeper Joseph Perez was up to the challenge. The two sides battled back and forth until CUC scored the first goal of the match in the 43rd minute. After an initial shot was blocked off of a corner, Julian Yanez was able to find just enough space to strike it passed the Marian keeper for his first goal of the season.

CUC came out of the halftime break with a lot of energy. The Cougars worked the ball forward, and after the initial shot was saved, Ryan Kuhlman centered a pass to Garrett Poynter who found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season. The goal made it 2-0 CUC just 45 seconds into the second half.

The Cougars then made it 3-0 in the 71st minute. A beautiful centering pass found the head of German Tinoco who guided the ball inside of the right post for his first goal of the season. CUC then extended the lead to 4-0 in the 78th minute. Michael Frank played a long ball that took a big hop. Dominick Christiansen was able to chase it down and win a one-on-one for his first goal of the season.

Perez and Nicholas Pasut combined for the shutout in net. The two CUC keepers combined to make five saves on the day. The shutout is the second of the season for CUC.
