Chicago, Ill. -- The Concordia University Chicago men's soccer team won their third match in a row on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Archers of Moody Bible by a final score of 4-0.
There was a lot to celebrate in the team's victory as three different Cougars scored their first collegiate goals.
Junior Austin Montejano (Zion, Ill.) was the first one to break the ice, finding the back of the net late in the 12th minute for his first-ever goal off an assist from fellow junior Samuel Epperly (Elgin, Ill.).
This was only the beginning of the early offensive output from CUC. Less than three minutes after Montejano got the scoring going, senior Ryan Kuhlman (Darian, Ill.) netted his fourth goal of the year thanks to an assist from sophomore Oscar Montejano (Zion, Ill.).
It took just over two minutes for another Cougar goal, with junior Juan Valencia (Chicago, Ill.) scoring his first career goal off an assist from A. Montejano to make it a 3-0 game in the 17th minute.
Freshman Giovanni Velasquez (Cicero, Ill.) joined the party in the 86th minute with his first goal in a Cougars uniform, the only unassisted goal of the afternoon.
Junior goalkeepers Nicholas Pasut (New Boston, Mich.) and Joseph Perez (Crystal Lake, Ill.) combined to pitch a shutout in net on eight combined saves. It's the first time since September of 2019 that the Cougars have posted back-to-back shutouts.
It's been a heck of a run for Head Coach Michael Arango's squad. They're undefeated since the calendar flipped to October and have out-scored their opponents by a 10-1 margin over three games. The 10 goals in the last three-matches are tied for the most in such a stretch since the 2017 season.
They'll look to continue their winning ways this homecoming weekend when they welcome Wisconsin Lutheran College to River Forest on Saturday, Oct. 16. Kick-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. and a stream will be available on
