Milwaukee, Wis. -- The Concordia University Chicago women's volleyball team (9-15, 2-9) headed to Alverno College (1-14, 0-9) for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. The Cougars came out on top with a 3-0 win in Friday's matchup against the Inferno.
After jumping out on top 12-4 in the first set, the Cougars fought off an Inferno comeback attempt, taking the first set with a score of 25-18.
A 5-0 jumpstart for the Cougars started the second set, however the Inferno kept it alive. Alverno had set points four separate times, but junior Grace Heywood (Northbrook, Ill.) got the winning kill to end the set 31-29.
The Cougars fell into a 1-5 hole against a hungry Inferno team to start set three, but eventually tied the set at seven. The teams also tied at points 10 and 11 before CUC pulled away 16-12. Ultimately, the Cougars won the set 25-19, claiming the match off a kill from Heywood.

Heywood led the Cougars in kills, tallying 8 on the night. She also led the team in points with 10.

Senior Alex Clasen (Naperville, Ill.) led the team in assists and service aces, with 12 and 6 respectively.

Sophomore Katie Stonich (Sadieville, Ky.) finished the match with 7 kills, bringing her season total up to 210.

Senior Chloe Martin (Effingham, Ill.) totaled 5 kills giving her a hitting percentage of .833, which led all Cougars in the match.
The Cougars look to add another win tomorrow as they face Edgewood College on the road at 12pm.
