Women's volleyball hosted Falcons in conference play

The Concordia University Chicago women's volleyball team lost 3-0 to Concordia University Wisconsin.

River Forest, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago women's volleyball team was back in Geiseman Gymnasium today as they hosted the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons. The two teams fought for three sets, with the visiting team coming out with the win.

The first set did not start off strong for the Cougars. The Falcons had a strong offense that worked around CUC's defense, resulting in the first set ending in a 25-13 loss. From there, the Cougars could not get in a rhythm as they battled with the rival Falcons. Concordia Chicago did not let up, but Wisconsin was still the better team. CUC dropped the second set 25-18.

CUC continued to fight through the third set, trying to make their way past the Falcons. However, the Falcons kept battling back against the Cougars' best efforts. This resulted in a 25-19 loss for CUC in the third and final set.

Leading the way for Concordia Chicago was Katie Stonich (Sadieville, Ky.). The sophomore outside hitter has been instrumental for the Cougars in the front row. She finished the afternoon with 10 kills while hitting .333 (2 errors, 24 attempts), which was the best on the team.

On defense, both Isabelle Vernengo (Plainfield, Ind.) and Julia Beers (Mishawaka, Ind.) had seven digs each. Mikala Perino (De Pere, Wis.) contributed to the defensive efforts with two blocks. Alex Clausen (Naperville, Ill.) made an impact from the service line as she contributed two aces.

The Cougars will have two days off before they are back on the court again as they prepare to take on the Benedictine University Eagles. CUC will travel to Lisle on Tuesday, Oct. 6. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
