Box Score It's been 313 days since a Concordia University Chicago Athletics team put on a uniform and played the sport they loved. Today, the Cougars didn't have to wait to get back on the court any longer.
The women's basketball team became the first CUC team to compete in intercollegiate competition since college athletics shut down due to COVID-19. They started their season against one of the best Division III women's basketball programs in the nation in Hope College. Although Concordia-Chicago fought hard throughout the game, they ultimately lost 30-97 to the Flying Dutch, who made it to the NCAA Elite Eight last season and only lost two seniors.
For the Cougars, they struggled to get into a rhythm throughout most of the game. Even with this team struggle, sophomore
Tara Hastings put up double-digit points, recording 12 along with three assists in her first night back in a Cougars' uniform. Fellow sophomore
Macy Klein also contributed to the team's offense with six points, shooting 50 percent for three-point field goals.
On defense, Hastings shined for the Cougars as she registered three blocks, three steals and two rebounds. Freshman
Janie Ternes led the Cougars for rebounds on the night four.
This was the first contest for the Cougars this season. They will be back in action again on Saturday, Jan. 23 as they host Greenville University in River Forest with a 2 p.m. tip-off.
