Cougar Women To Close Season at Aurora

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After a tough battle with the NACC leading Benedictine Eagles on Wednesday night, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team will close the 2019-2020 season on Saturday at Aurora. With a win CUC will beat their 8-17 mark of a season ago.

Series History: The Cougars own a 14-10 record over the Spartans since the 2007 season. Aurora won the first matchup this season by a 75-71 score in River Forest. The two sides were tied going into the fourth quarter but Aurora was able to outscore CUC 22-18 in the frame to take the win. Tara Hastings had what was a season high at the time 23 points on 9-14 shooting with seven rebounds. Julie Galauner led the Spartans with 24 points as AU shot 49.1 percent from the field.
 
About the Cougars: The Cougars come into the final matchup of the season 8-16 overall and 7-12 in the NACC. They are looking to rebound after two home losses in the last week. Senior Crystal Corr had a monstrous day against Benedictine, finishing with 22 points on 8-15 shooting, which was just one point off of her career high. As a team CUC leads the NACC and is ranked 27th nationally in steals this season with 301. The Cougars are also 24th in the nation in turnovers forced, where they are forcing just over 23 per game. Bailey Steinkamp is closing out the season strong. The freshman is averaging 10.0 points per game over her last six games and is shooting 47.2 percent from the floor.
 
About the Spartans: The Aurora Spartans come into Saturday 15-9 overall and 11-8 in the NACC. They have won their last two including a 72-53 win over MSOE on Wednesday night. With a win the Spartans secure the #6 seed in the NACC tournament that begins on Wednesday night. If the Cougars defeat Aurora, the Spartans will need CUW to beat Benedictine to get a spot in the playoffs over Lakeland. Aurora sports the top scoring offense in the NACC where they are averaging 76.0 points per game. Julie Galauner ranks 21st in the country and first in the NACC with a 19.9 points per game average.
