Cougars Return Home For Matchup With Aurora

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After a long trip out east and eight road games out of their first nine, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team finally returns home to take on Aurora University on Wednesday night.

Game Coverage: CJ Selner will have the play-by-play and Carter Gledhill will have the color commentary on the Cougar Sports Network beginning at 6:50pm. You can also follow along for highlights @CUCWBBALL on twitter and at cucougars.com/coverage

Opening up: The Cougars look to get back in the win column after falling in a hard fought battle to Christopher Newport. CUC trailed by as many as 19, but cut it to one late, before the Captains were able to knock down free-throws late to seal the game.

Making Hay: Freshman Tara Hastings had a big career opener for the Cougars against Rockford and has continued to play well since. She leads the team in scoring (13.7) and also leads the team with 19 steals this season. She has finished in double figure scoring four times this season, including a season high 26 against Marian. Last time out she finished with 22 points on 7-15 shooting to go along with six rebounds against Christopher Newport.

Steinkamp Impresses: Freshman Bailey Steinkamp got rolling out in Maryland, getting named to the St.Mary's All-Tournament team. She had two strong offensive performances, finishing with 13 points against St.Mary's and a season high 26 points against Christopher Newport on 9-11 shooting. The 26 points in a game was the most since Sam Bloom scored 29 against Aurora on January 2, 2019. Steinkamp is second on the team with a 10.8 points per game average. She is the team's most consistent shooter, coming into tonight she is shooting .440 from the floor and .378 from three.

About the Spartans: The Aurora University Spartans come into the matchup with CUC a perfect 4-0 on the road this season. Most recently they defeated Alverno at home by a 69-62 final score. AU features the top scoring offense in the NACC (74.7). They also knock down a league high 7.4 three pointers a game. Julie Galauner ranks 18th nationally and first in the NACC in scoring (20.8). She has gotten to the free throw line 62 times this season already and is the league's top three-point shooter. Meija Rabi is a player to watch as well. She is second in the NACC with a 55.4 field-goal percentage. She is second to Galauner with a 13.2 points per game average.

Up Next: The Cougars will hit the road once again, albeit just down the road. They will head down the street to take on Division Street rival Dominican on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 4:15pm from the Igini Sports Forum.
