Jan. 18, 2019 - The Concordia-Chicago track and field team went from one of the smallest meets of the season to one of the largest on Friday night. The Cougars competed at the Bill Clinger Classic at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI, a meet that featured over 20 teams and several events with multiple heats.

For the CUC men, the meet featured three season debuts. Antonio Sanders ran the 60-meter dash with an opening time of 7.45 seconds and competed in the long jump with a mark of 18' 3". Juan Urrea ran a 7.79 in the 60-meter dash and also recorded a 26.38 in the 200-meter dash. Ernest Bogart ran the mile, and his initial time came in at 4:44.12.

Brandon Ellis turned in two solid performances in the sprints. He led eight CUC men in the 200 with his career-best time of 23.43 seconds, and his time of 51.87 seconds in the 400 was his best-ever time indoors, good for 19th place in a field of 65.  Tyrique Thomas ran a 23.53 in the 200, marking his career best in the event, and Shemar Casteel-Payne came within .04 of his career best indoors with a time of 23.92.

In the throws, Shane Allen improved on his shot put from last week by 20 inches. Allen's throw at GVSU was measured at 41' 1 1/2".

The Cougars will compete next Friday, Jan. 24 at the Snow Day Invitational, hosted by North Central College in Naperville, IL.
