Jan, 11, 2020 - The
Concordia-Chicago track & field team resumed action today with competition in the Phoenix Invitational at the University of Chicago.
Tyrique Thomas had three strong efforts today. He won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.67 seconds and finished eighth in the 60-meter dash. However, his time of 7.30 seconds in the latter was a lifetime best in the close field, which featured only a quarter-second between first and eighth places. Thomas was also seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.91 seconds, just a fraction behind
Brandon Ellis' sixth-place effort of 23.87 seconds.
          Â
Thomas McNamara ran two distance events, showing a four-second improvement in the mile with a time of 4.33.79. McNamara placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with a 9:05.98.

In the throws,
Shane Allen recorded a personal best in the shot put with a 39' 6" to finish in sixth place.
Jacob Mills' personal best came in the weight throw with a 38' 2" for an eighth-place finish.
"I thought that today, we showed the promise and strength for a potentially great season," said Phil Kopinski. "It's nice to see our student-athletes' eyes light up a bit, because they know that all the work they are putting in is about to start paying off."
The Cougars will travel to Michigan next Friday, Jan. 17 for the Grand Valley State Invitational.
