Cougars Claw Back but Fall Short in Overtime

River Forest, Ill.- Concordia-Chicago (0-3-1) faced off against Monmouth College (2-0-1) in their match dedicated to pediatric cancer research. CUC was coming off of a tough loss to Lake Forest College while the Scots were hoping to build off of a dominating 5-0 win over Rockford University. Each team would score only one goal in separate halves before the game was capped off by two overtimes and a game-winning goal by the Scotts.

Inside the Box Score:
  • Samantha Goodlett sunk her third goal of the season.
  • CUC outsaved Monmouth 8-5 on the night despite losing 2-1.
  • All three of the Scotts goals were assisted, opposed to no assists for the Cougars.

Early on the Cougars fired shots that missed by a matter of inches. Although CUC was putting on the pressure, with 25 minutes left in the first half, Monmouth was the first team to light up the scoreboard. Concordia-Chicago would go scoreless after one half.

It did not take long for CUC to even the score. Goodlett scored her third goal of the early season after a ricocheted ball found her in front of the net, from there Goodlett worked her magic and zipped the ball past the goalkeeper. For the rest of regulation neither team would score again, thus setting the stage for an overtime.

The chippy back-and-forth battle would continue in the first overtime period but with no goals to show for it.

As a result there would be one more overtime period to play. Both teams exhibited stubborn defense until Monmouth snuck in a goal with 1:25 to play which handed the Cougars their third loss of the season.

Concordia-Chicago looks ahead to a battle against Central College in Pella, IA, on Saturday, September 14th. Game-time is set for 2:00 p.m.
