RIVER FOREST, ILL.-- After going 1-3 over their first four games at home, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Volleyball team will hit the road for the first time in the 2019 season starting tomorrow afternoon. CUC will head north to the Northland College Tournament along the banks of Lake Superior. CUC is the two-time defending champs of the tournament and are 8-0 over the past two seasons at the tournament.
CUC is unfamiliar with three of the four opponents this weekend. They will open the weekend against Nebraska Wesleyan before taking on Crown College in the second match. The Cougars have not faced either of the schools. On Saturday CUC will take on the host Northland College to open the day. The Cougars are 4-0 against the Jills since 2008 and have not dropped a set against them. CUC will close the weekend against the College of St. Scholastica who CUC has not faced.
2018 All-NACC performer
Shannon Stamp picked up right where she left off last season. She leads the team with a .390 attack percentage. Her 27 kills rank third on the team.
Freshman
Alyssa Henline has been key all the way around for the Cougars. She leads the team with 33 kills on the year. She also leads the team with 11 service aces. Her 0.69 aces per set ranks third in the NACC. She also has 45 digs this season which is just three behind the team leader
Julia Beers.
Sophomore
Caroline Gibbons and freshman
Tori Steele have been giving opposing attackers fits at the net this year. The two have combined for 27 total blocks this season. Gibbons is averaging one block per set this year which ranks third in the conference.
Following the Northland tournament, the Cougars will continue their eight match road swing next weekend. This time they will head south to Knox College for four matches.
