Points on the Line Against Rockford, At Benedictine

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After earning one point in the conference standings through the first week of league play, the Concordia-Chicago women's soccer team will look to pick up critical wins this week against Rockford University and Benedictine University.

Setting the Scene... With a front-heavy week ahead, the Cougars will kick off this week's three-game slate with a 2 p.m. match up tomorrow afternoon at home against Rockford. Then, CUC will travel to Benedictine for a 7 p.m. tilt tomorrow, before closing out the week on Saturday with an afternoon contest at Lakeland. All three contests can be viewed at cucougars.com/coverage.

Welch's World... Concordia-Chicago opened up NACC action with a 1-1 draw with Aurora and a 5-1 loss to Concordia Wisconsin last week. Junior captain Brianna Welch tabbed both goals for CUC, while the Cougars out shot their two opponents 35-33 overall. With her two goals last week, Welch brings her season points total to a team-high six, as the Oswego, Ill. native has recorded a goal in CUC's last three-straight games. All three of Welch's goals this season have been from at least 25 yards out. Regents' Return... Rockford University women's soccer re-enters the NACC this season, as the Cougars have not faced the Regents since 2013. CUC holds the all-time series at 10-4 against Rockford, having won the last five meetings against the Regents dating back to 2009. With three goals on the year through 10 matches, Rockford is currently averaging 2.5 shots per game.

Against BenU... Back in the mix for the NACC title this year, Benedictine was predicted to finish in seventh place among the conference preseason poll earlier this fall, just one seed below the Cougars. The Eagles are 2-3-1 through the first half of the season, and opened up conference play with a solid 2-0 victory over Marian University. Katie Farb leads the way for Benedictine's four different goal scorers, as the junior has two goals, both of which came during her squad's win against the Sabres. Keeper Cassidy Henson holds an impressive .825 save percentage, averaging just 1.17 goals allowed per game.
