Cougars To Close Opening Homestand Wednesday Night

RIVER FOREST, ILL. – After two four set losses to open the 2019 season against Concordia Wisconsin and Concordia Ann Arbor, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Volleyball team looks to rebound with two more matches Wednesday night to close out their four match homestand to open the season.

The Cougars will welcome North Central and North Park to Geiseman Gymnasium for matches at 6:00pm and 8:00pm. CUC will be looking for their first win over North Central since the early 2000's in the six o'clock match. The Cougars last faced North Central in 2017 in River Forest where they fell in four sets. CUC will then take on a familiar non-conference foe in the second match of the night. The Cougars have played North Park 24 times since the 2003 season and hold a 13-11 record against them, which includes a six match home winning streak. CUC has lost the last two in the series, with their last win coming at home in nearly two years ago to the day inside Geiseman.

Freshman Alyssa Henline had a big coming out weekend for the Cougars. The freshman finished with 18 kills in the two matches which is tied for the team lead. She also led the team with 25 digs and seven service aces. Henline's 0.88 aces per set ranks third in the NACC.  2018 All-NACC team member Shannon Stamp picked up right where she left off. She opened her 2019 campaign with 18 kills to open the season. Her .441 hitting percentage ranks first on the team and fourth in the NACC through the opening weekend.

The Cougars will enjoy home court advantage more this season than in years past. After Wednesday night CUC will have already played four home matches after playing just seven home matches last season. In total CUC will play ten total home matches this season.

Following the matches Wednesday night, CUC will head north to Ashland, Wisconsin for the Northland College Tournament. CUC is the two-time reigning champion of the tournament, after going undefeated there the last two seasons.
