AURORA, Ill. — After a tough weekend in Iowa the Concordia University Chicago Women's Volleyball team returned to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play tonight against the reigning NACC champs the Aurora University Spartans. The Cougars fought tough, but the powerful Spartan attack was too much, downing CUC in three sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-8)
In set one the Spartans out hit CUC .294 to .000. With the score 6-5 AU early in the set, the Spartans went on a 10-3 run to open up a eight point advantage that CUC would be unable to overcome.
Alyssa Henline led CUC offensively with two kills in the set while
Alexa Lomantini had two digs.
Set two saw AU out hit CUC .242 to .000. The Spartans jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the set, CUC would pull back within six at 13-7 but were unable to get any closer, falling 25-14. Henline led the offense in the set again, finishing with three kills while
Julia Beers had four digs.
Set three was much of the same. CUC hit .125 in the set while Aurora hit .500 and had a perfect 9-9 sideout performance. Aurora grabbed the early lead and never looked back, closing the match out in three sets.
Jaylynn Johnson led the Cougars with three kills in the set.
The Cougars will continue NACC play on Saturday afternoon when they head to Milwaukee to take on the Alverno Inferno. Opening serve is set for 12:00pm from Reiman Gymnasium.
