RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia-Chicago Cougars (0-2-1) hosted Lake Forest College (2-0) in their third match of the year this afternoon at Cougar Stadium, as they looked to get their first win of the season.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Despite holding a 22-5 shot advantage, the Cougars ultimately lost 2-1 to the Foresters.
- CUC out possessed Lake Forest for 54 percent of the match.
- Junior Samantha Goodlett had her second goal in as many games.
- Senior captain Samantha Wozniak led both teams with eight shots on the day.
The Cougars got going right away, as Wozniak had a long scoring chance early in the half, but missed just wide. Concordia-Chicago kept the pressure on throughout the start of the half though, and defended their side of the field well. While holding the Foresters to just one first half shot, the Cougars continued to press and missed several shots off the crossbar of Lake Forest's goal.
At the end of half, the game remained scoreless with the Cougars having 12 total shots and controlling possession of the ball for 55 percent of the half.
In the second half, the Foresters netted the first goal of the game in the 52nd minute, off a complete three-pass play. The Cougars, however, answered back with 33 minutes to go, off a header goal from Goodlett, that came from the perfect cross from
Cecilia Kochanek.
After equalizing the game, the Cougars pressed inside the Foresters' attacking zone. However, with just 12 minutes to play, a defensive miscue turned into Lake Forest's eventual game-winning goal.
Concordia was unable to tie up the game, and left the pitch falling 2-1 to Lake Forest. CUC will finish up their homestand against Monmouth College (1-0) on Friday, Sept. 6 at Concordia Stadium.
