RIVER FOREST, Ill.—After a 2-2 weekend at the Northland College Tournament, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Volleyball team will have one final tournament before they open NACC play against rival Dominican next week. CUC will head to the Knox College Tournament to play four matches over two days beginning Friday.
The Cougars do not have recent history with three of the four teams this weekend. CUC has not played Anderson, Iowa Wesleyan or Saint Mary's of the Woods in recent memory. The one team the Cougars have faced is MacMurray College. CUC defeated them in a neutral site match 3-0 back in 2016.
Jaylynn Johnson recorded ten kills and three blocks that match which
Courtney Luciano led the way with 12 digs.
CUC leads the NACC in four different team categories through their first eight matches. The Cougars lead in aces per set (2.10), total aces (63) , total team blocks (62), and blocks per set (2.07).
Alyssa Henline and
Julia Beers rank first and second in the NACC in service aces with 17 and 16 respectively. Not to be outdone,
Shannon Stamp and
Caroline Gibbons rank one and two in the NACC in total blocks with 26 and 23 respectively. Stamp's 26 blocks ranks her 44
th nationally. Stamp also ranks in the top five in the NACC with her 0.309 hitting percentage.
Following the busy weekend the Cougars will return home to River Forest to renew the River Forest Rivalry Cup sponsored by Northwestern Mutual. CUC will welcome the team on the other side of Division Street to Geiseman on Wednesday night.
