April 26, 2019 - It was a beautiful spring day in River Forest as the Concordia-Chicago track and field team hosted the Cougar Invitational. While the team was split today, with some members competing at the Drake Relays in Iowa, the local contingent gave a good showing and produced some quality performances.
Jessica Wilson won two events for the CUC women as they finished in second place with 102 points behind only Concordia University Ann Arbor's 117 points. Wilson set a new school record in the discus with a 140' 10", breaking
Abby Pierce's record by 17 inches. Wilson also owns the hammer record from last year, and though she did not top that today, she did set a season-best mark of 167' 6".
Wilson had good support in her events, as two of her teammates took second place behind her.
Kimberlyn Gadawski recorded a season-best 142' 3" in the hammer, and
Anna Sielaff took second in the discus with a 97' 9". Sielaff also captured second in the shot put (34' 3"), while
Rebecca DeGregorio scored points in both the shot put (career-best 31' 1 1/4", third place) and the discus (89' 5", fourth place).
Michelle Hennig also took points in the javelin with a fourth-place effort of 79' 9".
Dejah Sartin recorded the third winning event for the Cougars. She finished first in the long jump with a career-best mark of 14' 10 3/4", Sartin also turned in a career best in the triple jump, taking third with a 34' 7 3/4".
Crystal Holden scored in two of the sprints, finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.64) and fifth in the 100-meter dash (13.65).
Maddy Vojacek ran the 400 and finished sixth with a 1:12.91.
In the longer distances,
Molly Cullinane earned points in the 800 meters with a 2:50.11 (sixth place) and a 5:26.87 (fourth place) in the 1,500 meters.
Janette Moreno also scored in the 800 with a 2:55.28 (eighth place), and
Alyssa Taglia and
Molly Miklosz both scored in the 1,500, Taglia with a 5:32.63 (sixth place) and Miklosz a 5:55.24 (seventh place).
The Cougars will compete at the conference championships next Friday and Saturday and at Benedictine University in Lisle,
