WAVERLY, Iowa -- Picking up the team's unprecedented eighth win of the season, the Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team dominated the Wartburg Knights through a complete 60-minute performance.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Alexis Gandhi earned the win today, and the eighth of her career, as she stopped seven shots and nearly shut out the Knights in half two.
- Anna Kellar and Margaret Doane were electric today, as the combination scored 12 of CUC's 16 goals.
- Sydney Fuller continues to be a dynamic threat for the Cougars, scoring one goal and three assists and causing four turnovers against the Knights.
The flood gates opened from the start for the Cougars, as CUC had established an incredible 8-0 lead nearly 20 minutes into the contest.
After the tear, the Knights' offense began to wake up as Wartburg rattled off three straight goals in a seven-minute span. Despite the quick surge, Doane made sure to put an end to the run as she scored an unassisted goal with just one second left on the clock of the first half.
Opening up the final frame of play, Kellar pulled off three goals, all unassisted, to keep the pressure on.
At the 14:48 mark, Wartburg scored their lone goal of the half, before the Cougars finished off the day with three more goals to win it 16-4.
Concordia-Chicago will return to the field next Saturday at 10 a.m. to take on Benedictine University in their regular season finale.
