Seniors Shine in Season Finale

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- Looking to pick up their ninth win of the year, in what has already proven to be the team's most successful season ever, the Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team showed out to blow past Benedictine University, 17-3.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Of the 24 points scored today, 21 of them came from CUC's senior class.
  • Margaret Doane and Anna Kellar had big days, as they each scored six goals and one assist apiece.
  • Sydney Fuller closed out her career the best way she could, dishing the game-high four assists while tacking on two goals. With her second assist today, the senior broke her own program record for most assists during a single season. Fuller will end her career as the program leader with 42 this season and 103 in her career.
  • At halftime during the match, Jazmin Betancourt, Sandra Acevedo, Fuller, Doane and Kellar were all recognized for their immeasurable contributions to the women's lacrosse program over the years.
Kellar kicked off the day with an unassisted goal, as a dodge to her left beat the Benedictine defender to score the isolated goal. From there, Doane fired off two goals of her own before the Eagles got ahold of an offensive possession.

Despite the Benedictine goal to make it 3-1, the senior class took over as Fuller, Doane and Acevedo all tallied a goal to pull ahead to a dominant 6-1 lead, by just the 23-minute mark of the opening half.  With momentum in their hands, the Cougars rattled off six more unanswered goals to close out the half and force a running clock with a 12-1 advantage.

As the final half of the season kicked off, Fuller wasted no time finding Kellar in front of the crease to dump in the 13th goal of the day. From there, the CUC surge slowed down a bit, as the Cougars would not score again until the 12-minute mark. Down 14-1, the Eagles managed to score on a man-up opportunity, but it would not be enough as Concordia-Chicago recorded three more goals before the game's conclusion. After securing the Senior Day victory, CUC improved to 9-6 overall and 8-5 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference for the 2019 season.
