River Forest, Ill. – After opening up conference play yesterday with a split at Lakeland, CUC will continue a busy week with four more games this weekend. CUC will open the weekend with a rescheduled non-conference double header against North Park. CUC will then head north once again to take on Marian University.
Series History: CUC is 7-12 against the North Park Vikings since the 2007 season. The Cougars have won the last six in a row, including two last season by scores of 10-0 and 6-2. CUC is 9-16 against the Marian Sabres since the 2007 season. Marian took the two games in the regular season last year, but the Cougars rebounded with a big 9-5 win the NACC Tournament.
About the Cougars: The Cougars saw their six game winning streak come to a close yesterday in a heartbreaking nine inning defeat in game two against Lakeland. CUC combined for 21 hits in the two games, Led by
Kristen Landon with four hits.
Reilly McGuire also had three hits on the day.
Marita Van Dyke picked up her third win of the year, allowing just two runs on four hits.
Abbey Sloan leads the offense with a .400 average on the season.
Sydney Paulauskis-Lauher is just behind with a .367 average on the season. Inside the circle Van Dyke leads the team with four wins on the season to go along with a 1.86 ERA.
About the Vikings: The North Park Vikings come in 8-6 overall on the year but have lost their last two. This will be the first time in 2019 that the Vikings will be playing a true road game. They are led offensively by Hayley Jackson with a .535 average. She also leads the team with five doubles and 15 RBI's. Alyssa Aragon is not far behind with a .432 average. She had driven in 14. As a team North Park is hitting .346 on the season. Inside the circle the Vikings have a 5.19 team ERA. Jackson leads the team with a 4.42 ERA in 38 innings pitched.
About the Sabres: The Marian University Sabres come into the weekend 8-6 overall and will be playing their first northern games of the season this weekend. They are scheduled to host Dominican on Friday afternoon before meeting CUC on Sunday. Ally Fox leads Marian offensively with a .510 average on the year. She has also stolen ten bases. As a team Marian is hitting .330 with 89 runs scored in just 14 games. Myranda Schuttenhelm leads the team inside the circle with a 4-2 record and a 2.90 ERA in 38.2 innings pitched.
Up Next: The Cougars will have a pair of midweek double headers next week. They will open the week on Tuesday afternoon when they welcome Elmhurst College to River Forest. They then will head to Naperville on Thursday to take on North Central.
