River Forest, Ill. – As the season hits the final stretch, the Concordia University Chicago Men's Volleyball team took to the floor tonight for the first ever instalment of the Division Street Rivalry. The Cougars showed fight all night long against the nationally ranked Dominican University Stars, but would not have enough to hold on. CUC fell in three sets by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-20.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
In set one CUC battled Dominican close in the early going. Felbinger fueled the early offense as CUC grabbed a quick 3-1 lead. CUC kept their two point lead at 6-4 on a
Skylar Versendaal kill. Dominican answered with a 6-0 run to grab a 10-4 lead forcing a CUC timeout. CUC was unable to get anything going coming out of the timeout, as the Stars were able to close out set one 25-15.
Felbinger helped to get things going early in set two. The Cougar and Stars continued to battle back and forth through the early points. CUC held an 8-7 lead after a Dominican service error, but the Stars were able to answer again taking a 17-13 lead through the middle points, forcing a CUC timeout. Felbinger got CUC back within 19-17, but Dominican ran off a 6-0 run to close out set two 25-17.
CUC fought tough early in set three. Capers started a quick 3-0 CUC run to take an 8-6 lead early in the set. The two rivals battled back and forth through the middle points with a Capers kill tying the set at 14. Unfortunately Dominican was able to close out the set on an 11-6 run to take set three 25-10.
The Cougars will be back in action twice tomorrow. They will play an NACC match against Aurora to open the day. They then will close the day with a non-conference match against Augustana.
