River Forest, Ill. – Winners of five straight the Concordia University Chicago Softball team finally returns to action today after a nearly two week layoff with a NACC double header. The Cougars will travel to Lakeland University to take on the Muskies beginning at 2:00pm today. The game was moved up due to incoming weather in Wisconsin.
Series History: The Cougars and Muskies have met 24 times since the 2007 season. The two sides have evenly split the games with a 12-12 record. CUC is 4-4 on the road at Lakeland during that span. The Cougars have had success lately, winning the last seven in a row dating back to 2015. Last time the Cougars traveled to Lakeland they swept the Muskies by scores of 6-0 and 11-5 back in 2017.
About the Cougars: The Cougars come in on a five game winning streak. They closed their annual Florida trip strong. The bats really got going for CUC at the end of the trip, putting up 21 runs over the last two games.
Melissa Balkema helped to pace the offense over the course of the week. The senior batted .394 over the ten games and hit a NACC leading four homers while driving in eight.
Abbey Sloan was also impressive for CUC. The junior transfer hit .400 while playing a stellar center field for CUC. As a whole CUC hit seven homers on the week which is tops in the NACC. Inside the circle CUC got strong performances all week long.
Kate Roberts led the team with a 0.89 ERA and a 2-0 record over the week.
Marita Van Dyke picked up three more wins as well, while
Holly Bathje had three saves.
About the Muskies: The Lakeland University Muskies come in 6-8 overall on the season. Most recently they split a double header with Wisconsin Stevens-Point yesterday by scores of 0-7 and 7-1. The Muskies are coming off of an 11-25 campaign in 2018. Sydney Wickman and Morgan Schiedmeyer pace the Lakeland offense that is hitting .253 as a whole. Inside the circle three different pitchers have thrown ten or more inning already. Lindsay Cudecki leads the team with four wins on the year to go along with a 1.97 ERA.
