RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Concordia-Chicago women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead over MWLC opponent Marian University this afternoon, and never looked back as CUC dominated en route to a 16-4 win inside Concordia Stadium.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Contributing all across the field, Sydney Fuller led the way with two goals, three assists and a team-high four caused turnovers and seven draw controls.Â
- Anna Kellar and Margaret Doane were stellar on offense for the Cougars, as the two combined for 10 goals, scoring four and six respectively.
- Alexis Gandhi came out with her second win from in between the pipes, stopping three big shots.
Less than two minutes into the game Kellar got CUC on the board, cutting through several Marian defenders and dumping in a hot pass from Fuller to take a 1-0 lead. Doane got herself involved with the offense a bit later, as the senior took advantage of a man up opportunity from a Sabres' penalty.Â
Up 2-0, Marian turned its offense on and went for back-to-back goals over a two-minute span to tie things up. However, the Sabres' threat seemed to ignite CUC's offense, as the Cougars went on to score eight-unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-2 lead heading into halftime.Â
Doane tallied two more goals to open up the second half, before Marian made moves at a comeback with a big goal at the 22:01 mark. Despite any surge from the Sabres, Concordia-Chicago seemed to shut things right down with more offense. Halfway through the frame, CUC led 14-3 but kept its foot on the peddle as Fuller diced through a defender and nailed in her second goal of the day.
Ultimately, the Cougars came out on top with a 16-4 victory in their home and MWLC opener. CUC improves to 2-1 on the year and will hit the ground running next week with back-to-back games against Loras College and Cornell College.
