Cougar Women Look To Sweep Rival Stars Saturday

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Looking to sweep the season series, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team hits the road to take on the rival Dominican University Stars on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars look to stay alive in the NACC playoff hunt. Dominican is one of the teams that they are chasing with just four games remaining in the 2018-19 regular season.

Series History: The Cougars and Stars have met 22 times since 2007. CUC owns a 16-6 record against Dominican during that span, including a 7-3 record on the road. The Cougars have won the last eight matchups, including an intense 62-58 win inside Geiseman earlier this season. CUC fought back after trailing by seven after just one quarter of play. Sam Bloom led the Cougars with 15 points that night, while Michaela Thornton and Kayla Horlacher both scored in double figures as well.

About the Cougars: The Cougars look to build off of a 79-60 win over Rockford University on Wednesday night. CUC led nearly the whole way, building their lead to as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter. Crystal Corr had a season high 22 points on the night while securing her third double-double of the season. Deja Southall had one of her best performances of the season as well, finishing with a season high 16 points on 6-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds. Corr has improved her season scoring average to 9.1 points per game, to go along with her 7.6 rebounds per game average. Corr is also shooting a team high .441 from the floor. Sam Bloom continues to lead the team with a 12.2 points per game average on the season.

About the Stars: The Dominican University Stars come into the matchup with CUC tied for the final NACC playoff spot. The Stars lost their last time out on Tuesday night 75-38 against Wisconsin Lutheran. Timiya Ray and Alexis Hoskins are the big threats for the Stars. Both players are averaging over ten points per game and over seven rebounds per game this season. Dominican has taken care of the ball this season. They are +78 on the season in turnover margin. As a team they are shooting just over 34 percent from the floor and 27 percent from three.

Up Next: The Cougars will close out the 2018-19 regular season with two home games. They will host Benedictine on Wednesday night, before celebrating their two seniors on Saturday afternoon against Aurora.
