CHICAGO -- Despite a hard fought effort, the Concordia-Chicago Cougars struggled to get an offense rolling this evening, as the University of Chicago Maroons blasted to a 19-3 victory.
UChicago got on the board early and often, as CUC scored its first goal nearly eight minutes into the contest. At the 22:28 mark, the Cougars capitalized off a Maroon foul with
Anna Kellar and
Sydney Fuller combining for the give-and-go man-up goal. Down 6-1 with 15 minutes to go in the half, Concordia-Chicago worked to get past the UChicago defense, however the Maroons nailed eight more goals before the frame concluded to take a strong 13-1 lead.Â
CUC's defense picked things up in the second half, as the Cougars seemed to take over the game's momentum. With 25 minutes to go, Magaret Doane and Kellar netted back-to-back goals that threatened the Maroons' lead. However, Concordia-Chicago went scoreless for the remainder of the match as UChicago ran away with the 19-3 win.
Alexis Gandhi finished the night with seven saves, while Fuller and Doane led the night with three ground balls apiece.Â
CUC will return to the field this Saturday at 3 p.m. for the team's home opener inside Concordia Stadium against MWLC opponent, Marian University.
