NAPERVILLE, Ill. – After a tough weekend to open NACC play, the Concordia University Chicago Men's Volleyball tea continued a tough schedule when they headed to North Central College to take on the ninth ranked Cardinals. The Cougars did not back down from the challenge, but would fall in three sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
In the first set Capers and Rodriguez got the offense going early. North Central was able to answer with a short run to open a 13-7 lead to force a CUC timeout. Out of the timeout the nationally ranked Cardinals were able to keep the momentum going to take set one 25-16.
In the second set the two sides battled even early. Capers,
Brian Perez and Felbinger were able to find their rhythm in the offense once again to keep the score knotted at 11 midway through the set. North Central was able to open up some breathing room with a 5-1 run that brought the score to 16-12. CUC tried to get things going once again, but came up short in the set 25-18.
Set three saw CUC take an early lead. Capers and Rodriguez got things going initially for CUC. Capers made it a 7-4 CUC lead with a big swing off the left side. North Central was able to answer with a 7-2 run to reclaim the lead at 11-9. The Cougars were unable to get any comeback going in the set as NCC closed out the three set win by taking set three 25-14.
The Cougars will resume conference play on Friday night when they head north to take on Concordia University Wisconsin. They then will conclude the three match week when they drive to the south side of Chicago to take on Illinois Tech.
