Cougar Women Ready To Battle WLC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- With just five games remaining on the 2018-19 regular season schedule, the Concordia University Chicago Women's Basketball team still finds themselves with a chance at reaching the NACC playoffs. They will continue to make the postseason push when they welcome the NACC leading Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors to Geiseman Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Series History: The Warriors have been the dominate team in the NACC recently, winning six of the last eight conference titles. CUC has defeated WLC just once during that span, a 73-70 win in River Forest in February of 2017.  CUC dropped its only matchup with the Warriors this season 74-38 back on December 4th in Milwaukee.

About the Cougars: The Concordia Chicago Cougars come in looking to end a four game skid. CUC has won their last four games at home however, with their last win coming on January 16th against Alverno. With their 5-2 record at home so far this season, CUC has improved to 20-10 since the 2016-17 season on the floor inside Geiseman. Crystal Corr had a big weekend for CUC at the Concordia Invitational Tournament. The junior forward was an All-Tournament selection after scoring 15 against Ann Arbor and recording a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds against Wisconsin. Her 7.6 rebounds per game puts her seventh in the NACC overall. Sam Bloom had a solid weekend as well, scoring in double figures in both contests. The sophomore guard is shooting 36.4 percent from the floor this season, and is averaging 12.2 points per game.

About the Warriors: The Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors come in looking to stay atop of the NACC standings. They are set to take on Benedictine University in a rescheduled game tonight at home. WLC owns an 8-1 record in road games this season. Jem Dowden leads the powerful WLC offense this season. The senior forward is averaging 16.1 points per game which ranks her in the top five of the NACC. As a team the Warriors are shooting 44.1 percent from the floor on the season which is tops in the conference. Most impressive however is their commitment on the defensive side of the ball. They rank second in the country in scoring defense, allowing just 45.7 points per game. WLC also takes care of the ball when they have it, ranking 12th in the country in fewest turnovers.

Up Next: The Cougars will head on the road on Tuesday night to take on Rockford University. They then will hit the road for a big rivalry matchup with Dominican on February 9th before closing out the regular season with two home games the following week.
